Recovery
Freedom from exploitation is the start, recovery is a journey. It can be a long road, but the Snowdrop Project is here to ensure no one goes through it alone. There can be a life after modern slavery.
When a survivor comes to Snowdrop, we sit down with them and assess what support they need. All our support is tailored to the individual to help them move forward with their life. We look at six different areas:
Independent Living
- Finding secure and safe accommodation
- Obtaining income and a bank account
- Learning English
- Creating budgets and paying bills
- Making phone calls and learning to advocate for yourself
- Learning to take transportation
Legal Issues
We work alongside legal professionals and help advocate for survivors as they navigate complex legal systems in the UK. These legal issues can include:
- Immigration
- Compensation
- Criminal investigations
- Family law matters
- Challenging negative conclusive grounds decisions
Physical and Mental Wellbeing
- Managing mental health problems, such as psychosis, complex post-traumatic stress disorder or dissociative identity disorder
- Addressing chronic health problems, which may be caused by their time in exploitation or untreated conditions
- Having a disability
- Struggling with alcohol or substance misuse
Safety
- Finding secure accommodation
- Avoiding homelessness
- Having no address history or ID
- Understanding their rights
- Navigating social services, for under 18s
Community
- Being reunited with children and other family members
- Learning new skills
- Building healthy relationships
- Increasing self-confidence
Future Hopes
- Starting education
- Obtaining employment, even though they may have gaps in their CVs/no references
- Starting to consider future options
- Learning new skills and hobbies
- Starting or looking after a family
”When I first came here…I had many problems, so I got allocated a caseworker who would be dealing with my issues and only thanks to them, today everything is in order”
