International Women's Day

We are so proud to work with Hope English School who provide Digital Skills classes to survivors of human trafficking and modern slavery.

The classes are providing community, knowledge and empowering survivors of trafficking to use technology confidently and securely. Many of our clients have felt isolated by either not owning a digital device or not understanding how to use it.

 

The women who have come to Digital Skills say some of the most helpful lessons have been sending and receiving emails, doing internet searches, creating documents such as CVs, and feeling more confident with everyday online tasks such as making doctor’s appointments or communicating with their child’s school.

 

We want all women to use technology to connect rather than feeling disconnected.

 

With many victims of trafficking being recruited online, improving digital literacy, understanding digital safety and reclaiming online spaces is an important step.

 

We want all women to use technology to their advantage rather than being taken advantage of.

 

One of our long-term clients Ayesha*, who has mobility problems and struggles with her mental health, has been attending these classes. Ayesha has often struggled to engage with community activities over the years; she faces many barriers including her level of pain and fear of meeting new people.

 

Ayesha and the other women have been coming out of the classes buzzing and excited about all the things they’ve learnt! Ayesha says she feels confident attending the classes because they’re held at Snowdrop, she feels safe and her teacher is very helpful.

 

We join with all celebrating IWD in calling on governments, activists and the private sector to power on in their efforts to make the digital world safer, more inclusive and more equitable.
